Ruth Awad is a Lebanese-American poet whose debut poetry collection Set to Music a Wildfire (Southern Indiana Review Press 2017) won the 2018 Ohioana Book Award for Poetry and the 2016 Michael Waters Poetry Prize. She is the recipient of a 2016 Ohio Arts Council Individual Excellence Award and she won the 2012 and 2013 Dorothy Sargent Rosenberg Poetry Prize and the 2011 Copper Nickel Poetry Contest. Her work has appeared in The New Republic, The Rumpus, The Missouri Review, Sixth Finch, Crab Orchard Review, The Adroit Journal, BOAAT Journal, and elsewhere. Her work also appears in several anthologies, including Bettering American Poetry Vol. 2.

William Evans is an author, speaker, performer and instructor from Columbus, OH. As the founder of the Writing Wrongs Poetry Slam, William created one of the most reputable open mic and slam venues in the country. William is also the co-founder and editor-in chief of BlackNerdProblems.com, a website focused on pop culture and diversity. As an artist, William is one the most successful performance poets to come from Columbus and the state of Ohio as a whole. He appeared on three finals stages at the National level, most recently finishing fifth overall at the 2014 Individual World Poetry Slam. He has performed on eight Columbus National Teams while being an artist in residence for both the Columbus Wexner Center and Columbus City Schools in beginning in 2012. William is as a Callaloo Fellow, the poetry recipient of 2016 Sustainable Arts Foundation Grant and the 2018 Spirit of Columbus Foundation Grant. William's newest poetry manuscript, Still Can't Do My Daughter's Hair, was released on Button Poetry in Fall 2017.

Send in a free application to join ten poets for over a weekend of time dedicated to creation of new work, editing, and an analysis of craft in Columbus, OH in the beginning of the new year. Facilitators Ruth Awad and William Evans will bring their experience working within the poetry community and academia to help you develop your work further. Please note workshops will be intensive, and all-day, running from 9 a.m. through 5 p.m. with breaks in-between. The evening of the 8th will be an open mic reading. Cohort members are expected to be able to attend.

Fees
Upon acceptance, a fee of $150 will be required by February 1st. A scholarship for those for whom the fee is a burden is available for one student based on the merit of the application. Please note in your application if you wish to be considered for the scholarship.
